What It Is

Every great dog starts with a foundation.

A new rescue and a new puppy have more in common than you’d think: both are learning how to live in your world, and both do best when the right structure starts early — before small habits become big problems. These two programs build that foundation in the place it matters most: your home.

We don’t drill commands and call it training. Rooted in Decisions, Not Dominance, we teach your dog better choices and coach you to lead with calm, confident structure. Every plan is tailored, because every dog is an individual — your rescue’s history and your puppy’s personality shape the work.

And when you’re ready for more, both programs lead naturally into the flagship Lifelong Journey Package — public-space sessions and lifetime trainer support for the whole life of your dog.

The Two Programs

Two foundations, one philosophy.

Both are $975, both start in your home, and both include the required behavior consultation. Pick the one that fits your dog — or ask us, and we’ll help you choose.

Who It’s For

If this sounds like you, you're in the right place.

These programs are built for the committed rescue adopter and the new-puppy owner who both want to do it right from the start.

"I rescued him for life — I want to do it right."

  • Your dog carries habits or anxiety from a previous life, and you refuse to be one more person who gave up.
  • You want a respectful bond and real-world manners — not drill-based obedience.
  • You want a plan built around your rescue’s history, not a cookie-cutter class.

You didn’t rescue him to give up on him. The Better Together Package builds the calm, confident dog you both deserve.

"I want to raise this puppy right — before bad habits set in."

  • The nipping, jumping, chewing, and potty accidents are wearing you down.
  • You know early socialization and confidence matter, but you’re not sure where to start.
  • You want structure that fits your home — not a crowded group class.

Calm isn’t a vibe — it’s a skill. The Puppy Primer Package helps you build it from week one.

Why Urban Ruffneck

Why start your rescue or puppy with us.

The foundation you build now shapes the dog you live with for years. Here’s why owners trust us to lay it.

In-home, not sent away.

We train where behavior actually happens — your home — and coach you alongside your dog, so the structure sticks. No kennel, no regression handoff.

Behavior, not just obedience.

Rooted in Decisions Not Dominance and Beyond Obedience: we build trust and teach better choices, folding in manners along the way — not just sit-stay drilling.

Balanced AND fear-free.

Clear structure paired with positive reinforcement — clarity over control, always building trust. Especially important for a sensitive rescue or a young pup.

A clear next step.

Both programs flow into the flagship Lifelong Journey Package — public-space sessions, Ruffneck Rover pack walks, and lifetime trainer support when you’re ready.

FAQ

Rescue & puppy training — your questions, answered.

What is the Better Together Package?

It’s our foundational program for rescues and older dogs: three powerful in-home sessions that build greetings and boundaries, basic obedience and loose-leash walking, and stronger communication and bonding — all tailored to your home, dog, and lifestyle. It’s $975 and includes the in-home consultation.

What is the Puppy Primer Package?

It’s our starter program for puppies 8 weeks to 6 months: 2–3 private in-home sessions covering potty training, crate and sleep routines, intro to leash, sit, stay and recall, solutions for nipping, jumping and chewing, plus early socialization and confidence building. It’s $975 and includes the in-home consultation.

How long does it take to train a rescue dog?

It depends on the dog’s history and the behaviors involved — every dog is an individual. Better Together is built to make real progress fast across three focused sessions, and many committed owners then move into the flagship Lifelong Journey for ongoing support. Your consultation sets a realistic, tailored plan.

Can a rescue with anxiety or reactivity be helped?

Yes. Anxiety and reactivity are behaviors we work to change every day. We build a plan around your rescue’s specific history and your home, using balanced and fear-free methods. Our goal is keeping your dog in your home — not giving up on him.

When should I start training my puppy?

As early as 8 weeks. Early socialization, potty and crate routines, and confidence are far easier to establish than to fix later. The Puppy Primer is designed to start pups right from the very beginning — calm isn’t a vibe, it’s a skill, and we help you build it.

What is Puppy Temperament Testing?

A $200 evaluation to help your family pick the right puppy — not just the cutest one. As an AKC CGC Evaluator and Dog Bite Prevention Educator, Loreanne assesses energy, temperament, lifestyle fit, and long-term goals. It’s offered on its own and isn’t part of a training package.

Does "balanced" training mean harsh corrections?

No. Balanced and fear-free means clear structure paired with positive reinforcement — clarity over control, always building trust, never fear or pain.

Give your rescue — or your puppy — the right start.

It begins with one in-home visit. Text or call to set up your consultation, and we’ll help you choose between Better Together and the Puppy Primer.
